New York & Company Closet: Unique and Fun Fashion Without Going Broke
I have consistently been an advocate of using clothing rentals to stay on trend with fashion, wear new things, but not go broke. Too often I see a trendy item I need to have but only end up wearing it once before I’m tired of it or feel it is already out of the date following season or next year. I always say what a waste of $60 (or even $100!)! It is one thing to invest in classic pieces (i.e., dress pants, jeans, blazers, skirts), but it’s another to drop money on a trendy item that will be a flash in the pan. I also find that when I have a special event I will invest in a piece that’s gorgeous, but once I’m seen in a dozen photos from the event, I feel like I can never wear that item again! Clothing rental to the rescue!
When I first started using clothing rental services, I thought I would be tempted to purchase the pieces if I thought they were too cute. To be honest, I loved wearing them but never felt bad about returning the items—I was too excited to see what was coming in my next clothing rental box! Plus, as a blogger, I like having new outfits to wear, and at times, I feel semi guilty with the excess of stuff I have in my closet. While I love trying new fashion, it does feel good to wear it once and return it for use for someone else later. Maybe this is some sort of version of sustainable fashion?
I took a break from clothing rentals during the pandemic and quarantine, simply because I was working from home, not being seen, and still had plenty of clothing, fashion, and content to feature on Instagram and the blog. Once I started returning back to work in the office more this past summer, I was ready to try some new things. I received an email from New York & Company closet to try their clothing rental free for a month! Note—this is not sponsored! I have tried Express Style Trial, Express’ version of clothing rental and loved it, so I thought I would give this one a whirl. So far, it is a win-win!
With NY & Co closet, I received some really fun and unique pieces that were so trendy and cute, but things I probably would never buy! I love the red stripes on the culotte jumpsuit and the puff sleeves on the purple dress below (in my opinion, one time only wears on both items!). I also love the chic look of the maxi dress above, which is classic and could be a candidate for multiple wears. If you do end up liking an item enough to wear it again and add to your closet, you do have the option of purchasing your box!
NY & Co Closet typically costs $49 plus tax per month. You can rent out three items at a time and return the box once you have worn them for another shipment. You have unlimited shipments throughout the month! If you are done with the box but have not yet returned it via mail, just let NY & Co closet know that you are returning, and they will work on getting your box ready before you even mail out the old one. This results in minimal time between boxes to maximize your monthly rental.
I love monthly rentals and definitely would continue to use NY & Co Closet throughout the year. If you decide to take a break, you are able to without canceling (and still not pay your monthly fee) and can return at any time. If this sounds like a great option for you, you can save $10 off your first month by using my link (click here)!
Have you used clothing rentals? Does this sound like something you want to try? I would love to hear in the comments below.
